Hypothetically, the color combination was indeed inspired by a Minecraft Youtuber who past a few years ago - a legend. Not so hypothetically, the intention was to create a design with an emphasis on the distinct shapes used and what image could be portrayed with them. The leaf shape was easy to lean into, and the gold circles could be read as berries on the vine.  

The dahlias did not make it through the entire season and there was not the drastic height difference as in the more recent years, but the colors were bright and lively, attracting a joyful audience - insect and y, nonetheless.
